This watercolor portrait of Archduchess Elisabeth of Austria (future Empress "Sisi") was executed in late 1840s by Patricius Kittner as a copy after oil portrait of Elisabeth, painted in 1848 by Vienna court artist Anton Einsle (1801^-1871; see our image nr.6).
Patricius Kittner (1809 Brno - 1900 Hirtenberg, Lower Austria) was a well-known Czech-Austrian portrait miniature painter of the 19th century. At first an official in Brno, he later became one of the most significant artists among Czech and Austrian miniaturists. Kittner was strongly influenced by the Viennese School, especially by Albert Theer and Josef Teltscher.
