This miniature - signed and dated "Bertin /1814" - is a very rare and important double portrait of future King of France Louis Philippe's little children: 2-year-old Princess Luise d'Orleans (1812-1850; CLICK HERE) and her, two years her senior brother Prince Ferdinand Philippe d'Orleans (1810-1842; CLICK HERE and see our web # 38879 ). The latter is decorated (despite his age, but due his belonging to French Royal Family) with the badge of introduced by Bourbons in April 1814 "Decoration of The Lily". They were the eldest of ten children of Louis Philippe (CLICK HERE).

It is a work of the miniaturist Bertin who - according to Leo Schidlof - was active between 1800 and 1825 in Geneva and Bordeaux. Schidlof adds that, in Geneva, he worked together with enamelist Georges Michel Maeulle.
Additionally, in her book, Mme Lemoine Bouchard lists Bertin's addresses in Bordeaux: "Maison Daurade pres le Grand Theatre", then - "rue Pilliers-Tutelle". The Nancy Museum of Fine Arts (le Musée de Beaux-Arts) houses one miniature from his French period.
