Our comparison images nr.7-9 convincingly demonstrate that this miniature on ivory could very well (and highly likely!) be an authentic work of well-known French, late-18th-century artist, Claude Bornet.
Claude Bornet (1733 Paris - 1804 ibidem) was a well-known French painter of miniatures on ivory and enamel, pastelist, graphic artist, illustrator, and also editor of engravings.
In 1766 he became a member of the Parisian Academie de Saint-Luc, where in 1774 he debuted as exponent, showing (among others) a miniature portrait of his wife (see Schidlof).
On another hand, Nathalie Lemoine-Bouchard in her recently published dictionary "Les Peintres en miniature /Actifs in France /1650-1850" (see our image nr.6) writes that Bornet's first exhibition took place in 1774 in l'hotel Jabach, and that the female portrait that he showed there was of a lady by the name Charlotte de Noirette. He exhibited also in 1781 and 1782 at Salon de la Correspondance, and in 1798 - in Salon de Paris.
Bornet sitter's were mainly members of Parisian aristocracy (for instance, Princess de Lamballe, Princess de Lambesc, Comtess de Vereillac, etc.), as well as known representatives of sciences, literature, music, and theater.
As illustrator, Bornet was especially known for his illustrations to books of Marquis de Sade.
