June 1, 2019:
Signed in Cyrillic "Dubosarskaya", this round oil-on-cardboard miniature was executed at the turn of the 21st century in (presumably) St. Petersburg. A portrait of young, early-19th-century Russian Guards officer, this work is a copy after the miniature on ivory executed by an anonymous Russian artist (it is housed in the State Hermitage - see our image nr.4).
The sitter here is shown wearing the uniform (regulation of 1814-1820 - see our image nr.5) of an "ober-officer" (junior officer) of the Kavalergardski Regiment (Guards heavy cavalry), which was then stationed in St. Petersburg.
There are records of two brothers, born only a year apart that served then in the Kavalergardski Regiment, both - in lower officers' ranks. Their physiognomic characteristics entirely correspond to facial features of the sitter from both miniatures (the Hermitage experts refer to him as "unknown officer").
We will speak here about Graf Alexander Nikolaevich Zubov (1797-1875; for his extensive biography ,see our images nr.6-7) and his younger brother Graf Platon Nikolaevich Zubov (1798-1855; see our images nr.10-11).
Alexander Nikolaevich was promoted into the rank of poruchik (1st lieutenant) on January 16, 1816, and, on April 3, 1817, was appointed adjutant of the Regiment's Chief (proprietor) - F.P. Uvarov. The younger of the two brothers - Platon Nikolaevich - became a poruchik of the same (Kavalergardski) regiment on November 9, 1819, and was similarly appointed adjutant of the regiment's commander.
Our images nr.12-15 show several known portraits of these two men, encompassing the greater part of their lives (childhood, adolescence, adulthood): one cannot but notice the remarkable likeness between our sitter and Zubov brothers.
P.S. December 19,.2019:
Our aforesaid reflection, published on 1st June 2019, obviously prompted St.Petersburg art histirian Mr. Yepatko to offer (six months later!) detailed attribution (without any mention of our name) which we discovered in VIII issue of "Russian portraits /XVIII - begin of XX century /Materials to Iconography", Moscow, December 2019, pp.54-55 (see our image nr.16).
