Executed (according to sitter's dress and hairstyle) in early 1830s, i.e. shortly after her wedding (1831) it is of superior quality, large miniature portrait of Mrs. Emily Puller, wife of well-known English barrister and politician (since 1857 Member of Parliament) Christopher William Puller (from 1857 Giles-Puller; see our image nr.10 with latter's biography).

Emily was born on 27th October 1806 (on this portrait she is 25/27) in London as seventh-born child of William Blake, Esq. (1774-1852) and his wife Mary Nash. She was baptised on 2nd December 1806, at St.Mary, Marylebone, London.
On 5th July 1831, at St.George, Hanover Square, London she married Christopher William Puller. They had five sons and four daughters.
According to the authentic legend on verso Emily died in 1881, at the age of 75.

Our friend, world's best specialist in portrait miniatures Dr. Bodo Hofstetter whom we showed photo of this miniature recognized it as a typical and absolutely authentic work of well-known London female artist Maria A. Chalon., Our comparison image nr.11 fully confirms this attribution.

Maria A. Chalon was born in London about 1800 and died in 1867. She was a daughter of animalist Henry Barnard Chalon whose wife was the sister of well-known artist James Ward. She was taught by her father and had an aptitude for music. She worked in London as a miniaturist and exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institute, etc.. Between 1819 and 1840 her exhibited works were signed with her maiden name. In 1841 she married Mr. Henry Moseley where after she signed with her married name. In ca. 1823 she became "portrait paintress" to the Duke of York. Her work was of very high quality and had some affinity to that of Sir W.C. Ross
