"Le Clair de Lune" and "La Cascade de Tivoli" - these two color aquatints after the paintings of Claude Joseph Vernet (1714-1789) were made (and printed in 1806 in Paris) by well-known Parisian engraver, editor and art dealer, Jacques-Louis Bance the Elder (1761 Claville/ Eure - 1847 Paris).

Jacques-Louis Bance (1761 Claville - 1847 Paris) was a designer , writer , engraver and print-seller. Jacques-Louis Bance was born in Claville in department Eure as a son of a farmer. He had a brother, Charles Bance (1771-1863), also called "young Bance". Orphaned at age 9, he was became an apprentice of the master-saddler of the commune Evreux. He continued to work in Normandy as saddler before settling in Paris in 1787 as a master-saddler. His interest in printmaking gave a start to a production (1789) of various historical scenes. He became a print-maker and seller. To produce the prints, he invented a system to transport them under glass (this method remains a secret until today). He specialized in the figures in book publishing and in architectural magazines such as "Etudes relatives a l'art des constructions" (1823-1828). From 1831 to 1846 he worked with his son Balthazar Bance (1804-1862). He was became the brother-in-law of geographer Jean-Denis Barbié Bocage (1792) and the stepfather of print-seller Jean-Baptiste Caillard (1776-1833). Jacques-Louis Bance died in Paris in 1847 succeeded by his son. He is buried in a small tomb of the Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris, with a laudatory inscription "Benefactor of Claville" - his birth town in the department of Eure.
