These two watercolor portraits were acquired on the 11th of November 2013 at German auction house "Hermann Historica". According to the old authentic legends on verso of both of them, they show high-ranking (he bears relatively high Russian awards reflective of his high standing in the Russian state hierarchy) official Samoilo Ivanovich Sibert (typical German family name; in Russian phonetic transcription - Zibert) and his wife Elena Fedorovna Sibert, nee Raschke (also of Russo-German descent). Further, the legends inform us that the husband was born in 1797 (in this portrait, he appears to be ca. 60/65 years of age - a detail that offers the approximate date of execution, i.e. 1860s), probably in Ekaterinburg (Ural) and died in Moscow in 1868. Additionally the legends say that he was buried at the Lutheran Cemetery at Vedenskye Gory (Vedensky Hills) in Moscow, and that his wife was born in 1803, died on the 20th of February 1885 and was buried at Alexeevsky Monastery in Moscow.
Our brief Web research brought some additional information:
Samoilo Ivanovich Sibert was a Moscow post master in rank of "nadvorny sovetnik" (English: court councilor). His son - Fedor Samoilovich Sibert (1823-1888) - ended his career in rank of "statsky sovetnik" (state councilor); he served in Moscow Chamber of State Properties.

Both watercolors are works of the same artist who was working in Moscow in 1860s. We believe that his name was Sergei Ivanovich Sudarikov, Moscow portraitist working in watercolor technique, graduate of the Moscow College of Painting and Sculpture. In 1854 the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts awarded him a title of "neklassny khudozhnik" (English: out-classed artist). The images nr.15-17 convincingly support our assumption of his authorship in case of these two portraits.
