This miniature is a contemporary copy after oil painting by well-known French portraitist of Napoleonic era Robert Lefevre (see our image nr.10). It is a depiction of the medieval French scholastic philosopher, leading logician, theologian, poet, composer and musician Pierre Abelard ( c.1079 - 21 April 1142; see our image nr.11 and CLICK HERE).
It is the artist's own replica of miniature, signed - da Rosalia 1814, in a private collection (see our image nr.6). Lydia Antiga, author of article "Peintre en miniature: Rosalie Drouot" in the 33rd issue of "La Lettre de la Miniature" (see our images 7-9) ascribes this signed version to French female miniaturist Mlle Rosalie Drouot (? Aulnois-sous-Beaufremont - 1826 Paris).
